Bangalore metro rail system also known as namma metro system is making the lives of people of bangalore for quite some time now. It comes under the ownership of bangalore metro rail corporation limited. Since it became operational i.e. 20 October 2011 it has had a big impact on the lives of people of bangalore. Out of all the metro rail systems the namma metro comes at no. 3 in India after Delhi and hyderabad. In world namma metro system stands 83rd in length of the tracks and 79th when it comes to operational metro stations. Thr length of the track of bangalore metro rail system is 42.3 km and has 41 metro stations in them. As of now it is spread only in 2 coloured lines. The average ridership per day is estimated to 315000.

Smoother and faster journey

With the fast growing population and people migrating in bangalore the number of vehicles on the roads of bangalore are increasing exponentially. Though many fundas like car pool were publicized but mostly people dont give much attention to it. After 2011 with a joint venture of government of India and karnataka government, bangalore metro rail corporation limited the problem has been partially tackled. Many people have switched from their personal vehicles to the smoother and faster option of bangalore metro for their daily commuting purposes.

A little history

It was may 2003 when the delhi metro rail corporation presented the detailed plan for the first phase of namma metro system to Bangalore metro metro rail corporation limited. After things got settled it got scheduled to start in initial days of 2005 but due to change of governments it got started in the month of February 2006. The project got approval from the union government on 25th April 2006 and the civil construction got started 15th April 2007. The complete project was divided into 2 phases the construction of phase one got completed in 2017 and second phase is expected to finish by 2020.

Some interesting facts about namma metro rail system

  • It has standard gauge trains which has less seats to sit and has more space to stand (which is more important actually).
  • The namma metro rail system has a system to harvest rain water out of which major part is used to recharge the underground water table and some is sent to treatment plants too.

A well planned system indeed. This system had made the way of commuting and lives of the people of bangalore much more easier.
